Does Don't Sleep change the power saving options on the system?
No! "Don't Sleep" does not change the 'power saving options' on your system. Also it does not change Windows registries entries or any other settings!
Don't Sleep only prevents and blocks the options you select!
Depending on the setting, DontSleep reports to the operating system that it has important tasks to perform – thus preventing your system from sleeping. If the screen saver is to be activated or the monitor is to be deactivated, it will be send the necessary command to do that.
Also, it tells the system that it has the highest shutdown priority to prevent other programs from receiving the shutdown command before 'Dont Sleep' does and possibly closing it before 'Dont Sleep' can intercept it.
The CPU load of Don't Sleep is zero, meaning that there is no extra burden on the operating system by having it running.
The main use for Dont Sleep is to prevent Windows power saver from shutting down programs and applications before they have time to complete their task. It is particularly useful for long downloads or video decoder software, which can sometimes takes hours or days to complete.
The system settings power options must not be changed by this tool. I installed Dont 'Sleep to solve the following problem, my data backup is done every day in the evening using Ashampoo Backup. Since this activity runs in the background, it has happened to me several times that I shut down the PC while data backup was in progress. This interrupted the data backup. With Don’t Sleep I can prevent the shutdown in time. Ashampoo Backup can shut down the PC independently after data backup has ended - a useful feature that I also use. Unfortunately, Don’t Sleep is now preventing this process. Even if all other apps are closed, the PC remains switched on with the message that the Don’t Sleep app prevents shutdown.?
1. Block the screen saver by moving the mouse to a customizable screen corner.?
2. Look for the ini file in the working directory (the directory from which Don't Sleep is launched), not in the directory where Don't Sleep is located. It will allow to launch several copies of Don't Sleep. For example, one may like to disable the screen saver by moving the mouse to the right top corner (provided by copy #1 that is launched at user logon). He/she also may need to periodically launch some program that requires disabling hibernation: this program may be launched via batch script that also launches copy #2 and kills it when the main program is finished.?
