The Windows Registry is an important place to configure programs and services that start automatically when the operating system starts. These entries are often stored in the so-called “Autostart” or “Startup” area of the registry. Here are some of the most common paths in the registry where startup entries can be found:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

User-specific programs and scripts can be placed here that are to be executed when the current user logs in.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

In this area, system-wide autostart programs can be stored that are executed for all users when the system starts.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce

Programs and scripts entered here will only be started once the next time the current user logs in.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce

This area contains entries for programs that will only run once at the next system boot.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunServices

These keys are for services and applications that run in the background when the user is logged in.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunServices

System-wide services and applications that run in the background when the system starts are registered here.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer\Run

This setting allows administrators to specify specific programs for users or computers.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows\Load

Entries here refer to programs that are loaded in the Windows registry when a user logs in.

Please note that editing the Windows registry requires caution as incorrect changes can destabilize the system. If you are not sure which entries to change or delete, it is advisable to consult an expert or create a backup copy of the registry before making any changes. There are also third-party tools that can help you manage the startup programs without having to intervene directly in the registry.
