Why do AMD CPUs only have full memory speed in multithreaded mode?

AMD CPUs, especially the Ryzen models, often show better memory speed in multithreaded mode due to their architecture and the way they manage memory accesses. Here are some reasons why:

1. AMD CPU and the memory controller architecture:
2. CCX and CCD architecture in the AMD CPU:
3. Memory interleaving in AMD CPUs:
4. Power saving modes and clock speeds of AMD CPUs:
5. AMD CPUs and software optimization:

1.) AMD CPU and the memory controller architecture:

AMD's Ryzen processors use an integrated memory controller that offers higher bandwidth and efficiency compared to older architectures. In multithreaded scenarios, the storage controller can better manage memory accesses because multiple threads can access different areas of memory at the same time, which optimizes the use of available bandwidth.

2.) CCX and CCD architecture in the AMD CPU:

In AMD's Ryzen CPUs, especially in the Zen architecture, the cores are organized in so-called CCX (Core Complex) or CCD (Core Complex Die) units. Within these units, the cores share a common L3 cache, which makes memory accesses more efficient. In multithreaded mode, the cores within a CCX or CCD can make better use of cache coherence, resulting in higher memory speeds.

3.) Memory interleaving on AMD CPUs:

Multithreaded operations can benefit from memory interleaving, where different memory banks are accessed at the same time. This improves the overall use of the memory rate because access to the memory is parallelized, which increases the effective bandwidth.

4.) Energy-saving modes and clock frequencies of AMD CPUs:

In single-thread operation, CPUs could turn down their frequencies or switch to energy-saving modes to save energy. In multithreaded mode, these power management features may be used less aggressively, resulting in higher memory speeds.

5.) AMD CPUs and software optimization:

Many modern applications and operating systems are optimized for multithreaded operations. This software can make better use of the memory rates when multiple threads are accessing the memory at the same time, which increases the speed and efficiency.

In summary, AMD CPUs can benefit from improved memory resource management and better bandwidth utilization in multithreaded mode.
