What are Windows device installation settings?

Windows device installation settings refer to a set of options that determine how Windows devices and their drivers are installed and configured.

These settings are especially important when you connect new devices or install drivers, and they affect whether Windows automatically checks for the latest drivers, blocks drivers from installing, or even controls the way Windows handles new devices.

You can adjust the device installation settings to control how Windows responds to devices that are connected to your computer. Here are the main options:

1. Automatic driver installation:
2. Driver installation notification:
3. Preventing automatic driver installation:
4. Using Windows Update for drivers:
5. Adjusting device installation settings:
6. How to open device installation settings:
7. ►►  Change device installation settings in Windows 11!

1.) Automatic driver installation:

- Windows automatically searches for and installs the latest drivers for devices connected to your computer, including devices such as printers, keyboards, and mice, as well as more complex hardware such as graphics cards and network cards.

2.) Notification when installing driver:

- Windows informs the user that a new driver is being installed or that Windows has found a driver for a device.

3.) Prevent automatic installation of drivers:

- This setting allows you to disable automatic installation of drivers, which can be useful if you want to prevent Windows from automatically installing outdated or incompatible drivers.

4.) Using Windows Update for drivers:

- When enabled, Windows Update checks for the latest drivers and offers them during the update. This helps ensure that the system always has the latest drivers installed.

5.) Adjust device installation settings:

- You can access these settings by opening Device Manager and looking for "Device installation settings" in the advanced options. There you can enable or disable the corresponding options.

6.) To open the device installation settings:

1. Windows 10 and 11 :

- Method 1 :
1. Open “Settings” (using `Win + I`).
2. Go to “Update & Security” and then to “Windows Update” .
3. Click on “Advanced options” and find the Device installation settings.

- Method 2 :

1. Press `Win + X` and select “Control Panel” .
2. Click on “Hardware and Sound” and then on “Device installation settings” .

In the Device installation settings, you can decide if you want to let Windows control the installation of drivers, or if you want to take control of it to ensure that only certain drivers are installed.
