Rename Default operating system Name at System startup in Windows-7, how to?


It is possible and very easy  with Microsoft  bcdedit.exe to Rename Default (active) operating system Name at System startup in Windows-7 and Boot menu this works also on Windows-10 and Windows-8.1!


Please start the CMD in admin mode:

... Start the Windows 7 cmd.exe in administrator mode!
... Start the Windows 8 cmd.exe (command prompt) in administrator mode!




And rename the boot name, for example Windows-7 to Windows-7 Ultimate:
bcdedit /set description "Windows-7 Ultimate"

or for Pro
bcdedit /set description "Windows-7 Pro"

or for Windows 10
bcdedit /set description "Windows-10" 
 
That's it! (... see Image-1 Arrow-1,2 and 3)

To rename other OS use command: bcdedit /enum to see the list!

And for example: bcdedit /set {ntldr} description "Windows-XP SP1"
