What is a boot disk?

A boot disk (boot disk) is used for an emergency start or as a rescue medium if the system no longer works properly.

The use of boot floppy disks is coming to an end, since other data carriers with higher capacity, such as CD-ROMs or USB sticks, are available or can be used for booting.

Info: A "bootable floppy disk" refers to a floppy disk. When you refer to a CD or DVD, this is called a "boot CD" or, for example, a " recovery DVD/CD ".

A bootable floppy disk, also known as a boot volume or boot disk,

contains special files that the computer needs to boot into an operating system. If the bootable disc is removable media such as a floppy disk or CD-ROM, it usually bypasses the hard drive, depending on the settings in the BIOS. Typically, this disk is used to check the computer or allow the user to copy files when a computer fails.

USB drives and sticks are now widely used to boot MS Windows!

Booting from removable media, such as a USB drive, allows you to diagnose a computer that is having trouble booting from the hard drive.

The computer where you want to use your bootable USB drive,

must be able to use a USB drive as the boot device. Most computers running Microsoft's Windows 10.8.1, or MS Web Server, can boot from a USB device. It used to only be possible on certain motherboards!
