What is Virtual Memory?

The virtual memory is also a physical memory, but is not on the memory modules that are intended for the real work memory RAM!

The PC Memory in today's RAM memory modules works with a data throughput of more than 10 gigabytes per second, if it is operated eg in the dual Chanel! The i7 and Xenon processors from Intel also have a triple channel (triple channel)!

The virtual memory is usually located on a data carrier! Is similar or almost the same as the paging file of Windows, which is here referred to as pagefile.sys!

If this, for example, on the SSD hard drive is reached a data throughput of 100-500 megabytes per second!
With normal hard drives 40-200 megabytes per second!

Sometimes USB-3 sticks are also used for virtual memory, but this is also one of the worst solutions, which only reaches 10 to 50 megabytes per second!

The term virtual memory is usually found most often with virtual servers. But in short it is a cost effective option. Of course, to save money on real RAM, you can not keep up with real RAM because it's 10 to 100 times slower.

Here are the values:

10 GB = 10,000,000,000 bytes
500 MB = 500,000,000 bytes
50 MB = 50,000,000 bytes

Here are the links to the recommendations with pictures:

... DDR PC3 possible always use two modules 2 x 4 GB are faster than 1 x 8 GB

... SSD Samsung EVO 250GB  achieved with me 500 MB per second running in my PC

... Western Digital WD10EZEX Blue 1TB reaches 200 MB per second Well suited as mass storage Parallel to the SSD :)

This is on Microsoft Windows-PC, Apple MAC, MackBook, MS SURFACE, and Linux so ;-)
