How do I recognize EFI system partitions under Windows 11, 10, ...?

It is quite easy to see whether you have an EFI system partition under Windows 11, 10, ... etc. or MS Server OS!

1.) ... Detect EFI boot / system partition in the disk management!
2.) ... What is EFI anyway?

Attention only with ►►   UEFI firmware  ►►  What is UEFI and how does it differ from the BIOS?

1.) Detect EFI boot / system partition in the disk management!

1. Use the Windows hotkey Windows + R to open the Run window.

2. Type Diskmgmt.msc and press Enter.

3. Disk Management opens and you can also identify EFI partitions there.

(... see Image-1)

Just look for a partition that is labeled with EFI, if none is available, then your system probably does not support UEFI.

2.) What is EFI anyway?

The EFI stands for Extensible Firmware Interface System Partition, it is generally a partition in the data storage devices such as hard drives or an SSD that is used by a computer system that is related to the UEFI (Unified Extensible Firmware Interface).

See ►►  What is UEFI and how does it differ from the BIOS?

EFI stands for “Extensible Firmware Interface”. These are a set of specifications that define an interface between the operating system and the computer's firmware. EFI is intended to replace the older BIOS (Basic Input/Output System), which was traditionally used to initialize and boot up a computer.

Here are some key points about EFI:

Boot Process: EFI is responsible for the initialization and boot process of the computer. It provides a standard method for the operating system to communicate with the computer's hardware during the boot process.

Unified Interface: Unlike BIOS, which had a relatively limited and fixed interface, EFI provides a more flexible and expandable interface. It allows the development of applications that can run in the pre-boot environment and can be useful for diagnostics, system maintenance and other purposes.

Compatibility: EFI is compatible with both 32-bit and 64-bit architectures, making it suitable for modern computing environments.

Secure Boot: EFI includes a feature called Secure Boot that helps protect the system from malware by ensuring that only trusted and signed software can run during the boot process.

Graphical Interface: EFI can provide a graphical user interface for system settings and diagnostics, making it more user-friendly compared to the text-based BIOS interfaces.

Partitioning: EFI introduced the GUID Partition Table (GPT) for disk partitioning, replacing the older Master Boot Record (MBR) scheme. GPT is more robust and allows for larger disk sizes and more partitions.

Info:

EFI is commonly used on modern computers, including PCs and Macs, because it offers several advantages over traditional BIOS, such as: B. improved boot times, support for larger storage devices and improved security features. It has become a fundamental part of the boot process for many operating systems including Windows, macOS and various Linux distributions.
