AHCI for Windows 8.1 and 10 via storahci (activate, switch)!


The solution is simple to activate / switch from IDE to 

AHCI in Windows 8.1 and 10 via storahci!

Content / Erample / Tip:

1.) ... The registry entries in Windows 8 for AHCI change!

For this purpose, please enable AHCI  via  registry in the MS Windows all OS, it was still called Msahci.sys! But this as a sideline! 

To run the registry in Windows 10, 8.1, ... press the [Windows + R] key combination, then simply enter the text regedit and confirm the command by pressing Enter!

1.) The registry entries in Windows 8 for AHCI change!

Now you only need to change two values​​, or set to "0" (zero)! (... see Image-1 Arrow-1 and 2).

Value 1: (... see Image-1 Arrow-1)

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\storahci
"Start" set to "0"

And Value 2: (... see Image-1 Arrow-2)

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\storahci\StartOverride
"0" to the value "0" (zero)!

Then restart your Windows 10, 8.1, ... Desktop PC or your Microsoft Windows Server 2019, 2016, .... ! And activate ergo switch from IDE to AHCI in the PC BIOS at PC-Boot [Del.-Key]

2.) Download the "storahci" settings for Windows 8.1 and 8!


If you want to change the settings via a registry script, you can download it:

After downloading, simply open the zip file / folder "ahci_Windows-8.1_and_Win-8.zip"

3.) What are the advantages / disadvantages when using AHCI on Win 8.1 / 8?

advantage:
The Windows 8.1, or 8 starts quickly and the requests on the disk are accelerated by 10-20 percent!

disadvantage:
But it also happens that older hard disks that do not get along so well and it comes to freezing, or the MS-Explorer is a few seconds paralyzed!

It is then quite annoying to work, here I recommend turning off, or switch from AHCI mode to IDE mode!

Warning:
If multiple operating systems are installed on the same computer, this should also be changed to AHCI, otherwise you have to change the AHCI / IDE BIOS entry again! The operating system on which the AHCI was not enabled, so it can not start (boot)!
