What is a url?

Anyone who surfs the WWW quickly comes across the term URL and URLs used to access various HTML pages!

So what exactly is a URL? It is easiest to think of a URL as the name of a folder or file, or the full path to it. Unlike on the hard drive C: / Windows / System32, the URL-s are separated with slash instead of backslash.

Example-1:  Example Url:

https://www.softwareok.de/404-Folder/

Example-2:  Example path to the Windows calculator:

C:\Windows\System32\calc.exe

Example-3:  Example path to a folder in the network:

//Living RoomPC/Public files/

Because most URLs refer to a file on a computer on the network. However, you should not forget that URLs can point to other resources on the network!

To log the addresses!

The protocol identifier specifies the name of the protocol to be used to retrieve the resource.
This example-1 uses the HTTP that is normally used to provide web content! But it is not the only protocol. HTTP is just one of many different protocols!
Another protocol is FTP to manage files and folders, etc. ...

The protocols also have defined standard ports for communication
HTTP port 80 and 8080, HTTPS port 443, FTP 21, etc. ...
