Why are there pimples on the F and J keys?

Many MAC, Windows and Linux users are amazed at the bumps on the keyboard, which are perceived as knobs on the F and J keys!

1.) The knobs on the F and J keys!

But also on the number pad (number field, number pad) the key [5] also has a knob.

The small bumps, knobs on the F and J keys are designed to help users position their left and right hands correctly without having to look at the keyboard. For example for the ten-finger writing system. Once the hands are in the key position, the ten-finger writer is able to find the rest of the keys on the keyboard without having to look at the keyboard.

Those who do not master the ten-finger system, also known as typewriting, fall back on the Find the Key Such System!

2.) Should I use the nubs on the keys?

Yes, you should definitely use the nubs on the F and J keys if you want to type efficiently and precisely on a keyboard. The nubs serve as landmarks to keep your hands in the correct position while typing (also called touch typing). Here are some reasons why you should use the cleats:

Improved typing speed: By positioning your hands on the “home row” and using the nubs on the F and J keys as reference points, you can type faster as you find the keys can without looking.

Increased typing accuracy: Proper hand positioning makes it easier to reach the right keys and reduces typing errors.

Reduced Strain and Fatigue: Using the nubs allows for a more natural and ergonomic hand position, helping to reduce strain and fatigue while typing.

Blind Typing: Touch typing allows you to look at the keyboard while looking at the screen, making typing more efficient.

Better Posture: The cleats promote a more upright posture and help prevent RSI (Repetitive Strain Injury) and other related ailments.

If you're learning or have already mastered keystroke typing, be sure to use the knobs on the F and J keys to improve your typing skills. It may seem strange at first, but with practice you will find that you can type faster and more accurately without having to look at the keyboard.

3.) Can I safely ignore the nubs on the keys?

Whether or not you can ignore the nubs on the F and J keys depends on your personal typing style and goals. Here are some points to consider:

Experience and Comfort: If you are already an experienced keyboard user and are comfortable with your typing method, you can ignore the nubs without major problems. Some people prefer typing without pimples, and that's acceptable as long as they can still type efficiently and accurately.

Learning Objectives: If you want to learn typing or improve your typing skills, you should use the nubs on the keys as they help you maintain the correct hand position on the keyboard.
This is particularly useful if you write a lot for work or want to increase your typing speed.

Comfort and Accuracy: Placing your hands correctly on the nubs will help you find keys easier and faster and increase typing accuracy.
If you value these advantages, you should use the studs.

Ergonomics: Using the nubs promotes a more ergonomic hand position and can help reduce strain and fatigue while typing.
If you value ergonomic work, the nubs are helpful.

Ultimately, using the knobs on the F and J keys is a recommendation, but there is no strict requirement to use them. It is important that you feel comfortable and efficient while typing. If you're doing well without a pimple and meeting your writing goals, you can neglect them. However, if you are having trouble with your typing speed or accuracy, it may help to use the nubs and learn key typing.
