Is the reserved storage in Windows needed for every update?

Yes, the reserved storage in Windows is required for every update. Since Windows 10 version 1903, Microsoft introduced the concept of reserved storage to ensure that there is enough space for system updates, temporary files, caches and app data. This storage area helps avoid problems with running out of space during the update process.

1. The reserved storage!
2. Is a registry hack possible for Windows 10, 11 and 12?
3. Note:

1.) The reserved storage!

The reserved storage is managed automatically and usually cannot be disabled, although its size can be adjusted. With every major update or feature update, Windows uses this storage to ensure that the installation goes smoothly. After the update, files that are no longer needed are automatically deleted from this storage area.

Typically, between 7 and 10 GB of space is set as reserved storage, and this depends on the configuration of the system as well as the features installed.

2.) Is a registry hack possible for Windows 10, 11 and 12?

Yes, there is a registry hack that allows you to disable or adjust the reserved storage in Windows. This trick works in Windows 10 and 11, but you should be careful as disabling reserved storage may cause memory issues to occur with future updates.

To disable reserved storage:

1. Open Registry Editor:

Press Windows Key + R, type regedit and press Enter.

2. Navigate to the following path:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ReserveManager

3. Change the value:

Find the ShippedWithReserves
entry and double-click it to edit the value.

- To disable
reserved storage, change the value from 1 to 0.

4. Restart your computer:

You must restart your PC for the changes to take effect.

3.) Note:

- If you disable reserved storage, future Windows updates may experience problems if there is not enough free space.

- Microsoft recommends keeping reserved storage enabled to make updates smoother.

To re-enable reserved storage, simply set the value of ShippedWithReserves
back to 1.
